Tom is general counsel and partner with RENEW LLC and serves on the firm’s investment committee. As an attorney and consultant, Tom has advised U.S. and international clients in connection with transactions and projects that aim to optimize financial and/or social returns. His work includes attracting and supporting investments in frontier markets, financial analysis and strategic planning. Most recently, he developed innovative and low-cost structures for investments by RENEW’s Impact Angel Network into seven Ethiopian businesses along the technology, fast-moving consumer goods, healthcare and textile manufacturing value chains.
Prior to joining RENEW, Tom served as an associate with the law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. In this capacity, he advised prominent private equity clients and other leading financial services firms, Fortune 100 and Global 500 companies, and non-profit organizations involved in mergers and acquisitions, joint venture transactions, government investigations and private litigation. Tom subsequently served as chief operating officer of Success Markets, Inc. (SMI), a 501(c)(3) organization that advises funders and suppliers of human assistance on ways to measure and optimize the value they create for the disadvantaged. Before attending law school, Tom worked in the restaurant industry, managing a restaurant.
Tom is a Charted Financial Analyst® (CFA®) charterholder. Tom received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and his bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, in political science from Houghton College. He studied finance at the University of Michigan – Dearborn College of Business.
